ALECSO Statement on   “International Day of Living Together in Peace”

The Arab League Educational, Cultural and Scientific Organization (ALECSO) joins the international community in celebrating the International Day of Living Together in Peace on May 16th of each year. This day, designated by the United Nations General Assembly, is devoted to upholding the values of peace, coexistence, and solidarity.

ALECSO has consistently worked to promote and reinforce these values through its diverse educational, cultural, and scientific programs, initiatives, and activities. It has sought to harness the power of culture for the promotion of peace, notably through its "Cultural Caravan" program. It has also worked to promote inter-cultural and inter-civilizational dialogue as a means of spreading the culture of tolerance and peace.

Key initiatives launched in this regard include the Arab-European Dialogue Program and the Arab-Chinese Dialogue Program. ALECSO is currently working on launching the Arab-African Dialogue Program, aimed at strengthening solidarity and fostering interactions between Arab culture, as a culture of peace, dialogue, and diversity, and other world cultures.

In the field of education, ALECSO continues to implement programs and initiatives across Arab countries with the aim of promoting the incorporation of cultural concepts and the values of peace and tolerance into educational systems.

All these efforts, among others, align with ALECSO’s ongoing commitment to supporting global efforts in this regard. ALECSO, in fact, believes that global cooperation constitutes the optimal framework for addressing shared economic, social, cultural, and humanitarian challenges, through collective action to promote respect for human rights and fundamental freedoms for all, without any discrimination based on race, language, or religion.
