As part of its ongoing commitment to advancing digital transformation in education, the Arab League Educational, Cultural and Scientific Organization took part (virtually) in the General Assembly of the World Digital Education Alliance (WDEA), held on May 14, 2025, in Wuhan, China.

ALECSO was represented by Dr. Mohamed Jemni, Director of ICT, who offered a presentation titled: “Enhancing Digital Education in the Arab World: ALECSO’s Vision and Strategic Options.”  He highlighted some of the main digital initiatives and innovations led by ALECSO, including:

  • Saddiqni” Platform: A regional  Blockchain-based academic certificate authentication system, recently adopted by Tunisia’s Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research. It is the first official application launched on Tunisia’s national cloud for higher education.
  • Arab Code Week: The largest digital educational event in the Arab region, targeting over 3 million children/youth annually. The 2025 edition is hosted by Kuwait—Capital of Arab Culture—under the theme of “Programming and Artificial Intelligence in Service of Arab Culture.”
  • Arab OER Hub: The fruit of a collaboration with “OER Commons”, offering digital educational resources in Arabic, supported by intelligent tools for content translation and adaptation for various learners.

Dr. Jemni also offered a number of strategic recommendations to support the growth of the alliance, including :

  • Establishing regional innovation labs, under the WDEA umbrella, to develop educational solutions based on AI and large language models.
  • Supporting efforts to develop ethical governance frameworks for AI in education, in alignment with ALECSO’s initiative to draft an “Arab Charter on AI Ethics in Education.”
  • Developing multilingual digital training programs for teachers and decision-makers using AI tools for translation and voice synthesis.

Dr. Jemni concluded by reiterating ALECSO’s commitment to the WDEA’s principles, and its readiness to host or organize a future regional session of the Alliance in the Arab world, thereby reaffirming ALECSO’s role as a key partner in shaping the future of digital education.
