The Culture Department of the Arab League Educational, Cultural and Scientific Organization held a virtual coordination meeting, on March 19, 2024, to discuss the implementation of the “Arabic Inscriptions Portal” project.

This project is being implemented under the supervision of ALECSO, the UAE National Commission, and the ALECSO Ambassador for Arab Culture, and with the participation of all Arab States. It is designed to document one of the main components of Arab cultural heritage, and to make it available to scholars, researchers, and all those interested in this type of written heritage.

The meeting is a first step in the process of executing the Framework Agreement concluded between ALECSO and its partners for the implementation of this project.

The meeting determined the composition of the Scientific Committee to be in charge of supervising the project, which includes experts from the UAE, Tunisia, Iraq, Egypt, and Morocco. It also discussed the work mechanism that will be adopted to enrich the Portal, and identified the target group.

In the end, it was agreed to hold a meeting of the Scientific Committee in the next few days to develop a work plan and a time-schedule for all phases of the project, and subsequently a workshop for Liaison Officers from Arab States at the end of next April.
