Efforts of ALECSO and the Arabization Coordination Bureau in   the translation of scientific and technical terminology

As part of the International Lectures in Arabic Linguistics Series for the year 2023, organized by the Research Center for Arabic Language and Islamic Civilization at the National University of Malaysia, Dr. Abdelfattah Lahjomri, Director of the Arabization Coordination Bureau, delivered (remotely) a lecture, on May 8, 2023, in which he highlighted the efforts of ALECSO and its subsidiary institution, the Rabat-based Arabization Coordination Bureau, to promote the translation/Arabization of scientific, technical and cultural terminology.

Dr. Lahjomri indicated that ALECSO is keen on implementing various projects related to the Arabic language, especially in terms of research, translation and curriculum design. He stressed, in this regard, the need to reflect on ways of enriching the Arabic language with new terms related to science and arts, and developing modern curricula for teaching languages in a world marked, more than ever before, by competition between languages.

Dr. Lahjomri highlighted the role of the Arabic language in preserving the Arab identity, unifying the Arab Nation at present and in the future, promoting transition toward the knowledge society, and enhancing economic, social and cultural development. He indicated that the promotion of Arabic is a shared responsibility, and that Arabic-language academies, universities, and specialized institutes have very early realized the importance of enhancing language-related research as a tool for promoting modern scientific and intellectual knowledge.
