ALECSO Director-General meets Assistant Director-General for Priority Africa and External Relations of UNESCO

 

 

H.E. Dr. Mohamed Ould Amar, Director-General of ALECSO, met on November 18, 2021 at UNESCO headquarters, with Mr. Firmin Edouard Matoko, Assistant Director-General for Priority Africa External Relations of UNESCO.

The Director-General presented the main activities and programs undertaken by ALECSO, especially those carried out in response to COVID-19 education disruption, and the assistance it has provided to Arab States, especially those with special needs, in the form of educational online platforms, computer devices, and virtual capacity-building training. He expressed his appreciation of the excellent cooperation between the two Organizations, and called for further strengthening this cooperation through the executive program of the agreement signed between the two parties in 2016.

On his part, Mr. Matoko thanked the Director-General for his participation in the 41st session of the UNESCO General Conference, which provided an opportunity to discuss joint activities, programs and priorities in the fields of education, culture, science and ICT. He expressed his readiness to further consolidate relations between the two Organizations through the executive program that is expected to be signed early 2022. He also commended the achievements made by ALECSO in its fields of competence, in cooperation with UNESCO’s regional offices in the Arab States.
