The Arab League Educational, Cultural and Scientific Organization (ALECSO) participated in the international conference on “Science Diplomacy 2.0: New Realities, New Agency, New Strategies,” hosted by EMUNI University in the city of Koper, Slovenia, on September 17–18, 2026. The Conference brought together prominent academics and experts, along with representatives of international and regional institutions and organizations.
ALECSO was represented by Dr. Mohamed Sanad Abu Darwish, Director of Science and Scientific Research, who took part in a high-level panel and delivered a presentation on ALECSO’s efforts to promote science diplomacy through its various programmes, including the Scientific Visitor Programme, launched by the Organization in 2024. He also highlighted ALECSO’s efforts to advance the concepts of food and water security, and underlined the importance of developing regional approaches based on cooperation and the exchange of knowledge and expertise.
The Conference addressed various models of science diplomacy and their role in building bridges of communication and cooperation among peoples through scientific research and knowledge, particularly in light of the rapid technological and digital transformations. Discussions also explored ways of leveraging technology, knowledge, science, and innovation to keep pace with ongoing changes in the international landscape and strengthen the capacity to formulate effective and sustainable responses to current economic, environmental, and technological challenges.
The Conference further featured a series of discussion panels addressing topics related to the future of science diplomacy, sustainability, and geopolitical transformations, thereby providing a platform for the exchange of perspectives and expertise and for exploring new avenues to enhance international cooperation.
ALECSO’s participation in the Conference reflects its commitment to strengthening its presence in international forums, expanding networks of cooperation and partnership in the fields of science, scientific research, and higher education, and highlighting the role of knowledge and innovation in supporting dialogue and cooperation among countries and societies. These efforts are fully aligned with ALECSO’s mission to promote joint Arab action and keep pace with global scientific and knowledge developments.
