The Conference on “Palestinian Childhood under Israeli Occupation: Monitoring Educational and Cultural Violations and Strengthening Protection and Resilience Mechanisms” concluded on September 15, 2026, at the headquarters of ALECSO.
The Declaration issued by the Conference underscored ALECSO’s commitment to giving special attention to Palestinian children within its areas of competence, while considering the launch of qualitative initiatives benefiting them. It also emphasized supporting the continuity of education, addressing learning loss, promoting education in emergency situations, providing psychosocial support, and facilitating the reintegration of children released from detention.
The Declaration stressed the importance of protecting Palestinian identity, culture, and heritage, and supporting cultural and artistic programs designed for children. In addition, it called for considering the development of an Arab mechanism for educational and cultural monitoring and documentation, as well as conducting studies on the educational, psychological, and social impacts of the occupation on Palestinian children.
Over the course of two days, the Conference discussed the conditions of Palestinian children through sessions addressing issues such as child detainees, education during crises, identity, culture and collective memory, and pathways to psychological recovery from the effects of trauma.
The closing session was attended by H.E. Dr. Mohamed Ould Amar, Director-General of ALECSO; H.E. Mr. Rami Al-Qadumi, Ambassador of the State of Palestine to the Republic of Tunisia; and H.E. Ambassador Faed Mustafa, Assistant Secretary-General and Head of the Palestine and Occupied Arab Territories Sector at the General Secretariat of the League of Arab States, along with a number of experts and specialists.
