The Arab League Educational, Cultural and Scientific Organization (ALECSO) received, on 27 July 2026 at its headquarters in Tunis, a high-level delegation from the High Council for Education of the Islamic Republic of Mauritania, headed by H.E. Dr. Brahim Vall Ould Mohamed Lemine, President of the Council. The visit aimed to strengthen institutional cooperation, promote the exchange of expertise, and provide an opportunity to learn more about ALECSO's experience and programs in the fields of education, culture, and science.
The opening meeting was chaired by H.E. Dr. Mohamed Ould Amar, Director-General of ALECSO, in the presence of the Organization's Directors of Technical Departments, along with a number of experts.
The Director-General welcomed the delegation and expressed his appreciation for the visit. He reaffirmed ALECSO's commitment to strengthening cooperation with national institutions responsible for planning, foresight, and policymaking across its Member States, while fostering the exchange of expertise to support the development of education, culture, and science and advance joint Arab action.
The Director-General noted that, as part of its forward-looking vision, ALECSO continues to support its Member States through the preparation of studies and policy frameworks, the implementation of strategic programs and projects, and the organization of capacity-building and expertise-sharing initiatives. These efforts are designed to respond to the rapid transformations taking place across ALECSO's areas of competence and to contribute to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals.
For his part, Dr. Brahim Vall Ould Mohamed Lemine expressed his appreciation for the warm welcome. He affirmed that the visit provides an opportunity to benefit from ALECSO's extensive experience and specialized expertise, while strengthening institutional cooperation through the exchange of successful practices among Arab institutions with shared mandates, thereby supporting efforts to develop education systems. He also presented an overview of the Council's mandate, its establishment and institutional development, its key programs and regional and international partnerships, as well as its efforts to support the ongoing reform of the education system in Mauritania.
The first day of the visit featured presentations by ALECSO's technical directors and experts, highlighting the Organization's major strategic programs and projects, the technical assistance it provides to Member States, and its regional and international partnerships in the fields of knowledge development and capacity-building.
