The Arab League Educational, Cultural and Scientific Organization (ALECSO) participated in the 2026 Symposium on Education for Sustainable Development for Youth, represented by Dr. Mohamed Jemni, Director of ICT. The event was organized by the China Soong Ching Ling Science & Culture Center for Young People on June 17, 2026, in Beijing, China.
Dr. Mohamed Jemni delivered a pre-recorded keynote lecture titled: “International comparisons in youth science and technology education trends : Practices and opportunities for future innovators.” In his lecture, he addressed the main global trends in science and technology education for young people, as well as the role of artificial intelligence, digital technologies, and OERs in enhancing scientific literacy and future skills among youth.
Dr. Jemni reviewed ALECSO’s experience in supporting digital transformation and innovation in education in Arab countries, through its initiatives related to AI in education, open educational resources, smart learning, digital inclusion, and the development of digital skills among young people.
Dr. Jemni emphasized that science and technology education is no longer limited to preparing scientists and engineers, but has become a key driver for preparing citizens capable of critical thinking, problem-solving, creativity, and contributing to sustainable development. He also highlighted the importance of shifting from the STEM to STEAM approach, integrating science, technology, engineering, and mathematics with arts, creativity, and human values.
Dr. Jemni stressed the importance of international cooperation in developing science and technology education for youth, calling for strengthening partnerships among educational institutions, science and culture centers, universities, and regional and international organizations, in order to prepare generations capable of innovation and active participation in the digital future.
ALECSO’s participation in this symposium is part of its ongoing efforts to support Arab and international cooperation in the fields of digital education, artificial intelligence, and innovation, and to empower youth with the skills and knowledge necessary to keep pace with rapid scientific and technological transformations.
