The Arab League Educational, Cultural and Scientific Organization (ALECSO) participated virtually, on May 11, 2026, in the meetings of the World Digital Education Alliance (WDEA), held as part of the 2026 World Digital Education Conference in Hangzhou, China.
ALECSO was represented by Dr. Mohamed Jemni, Director of ICT, who contributed to discussions on the future of digital education and the integration of artificial intelligence into educational systems.
The meetings included the General Assembly of the World Digital Education Alliance, the second meeting of the First Executive Council, and the third plenary session of the Standardization Committee. These sessions brought together representatives of member institutions, international organizations, universities, and stakeholders engaged in digital education and artificial intelligence.
During these meetings, ALECSO’s Charter on AI Ethics was selected among the world’s top ten best practices in the field of AI in education. This recognition came under the WDEA’s initiative aimed at identifying and publicizing outstanding international practices in the use of AI in education.
This distinction represents an international recognition of ALECSO’s efforts to advance the responsible, ethical, and inclusive use of AI in education. It also underscores the importance of the Charter as a regional Arab reference framework for AI governance in education, grounded in the principles of transparency, fairness, privacy protection, and respect for human and cultural values.
On this occasion, ALECSO reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening cooperation with regional and international partners in order to advance digital education, enhance Arab capacities in artificial intelligence, smart learning, and open educational resources, and support initiatives aimed at building more equitable, innovative, and high-quality education systems across the Arab region.
