At the kind invitation of the Moroccan National Commission for Education, Culture and Science, the Arab League Educational, Cultural and Scientific Organization (ALECSO) participated in the third edition of the Forum of Academic Chairs affiliated with UNESCO, ICESCO, and ALECSO, held in Rabat on April 8, 2026.
The Forum aims to strengthen communication among Academic Chairs affiliated with International Organizations, thereby fostering the exchange of expertise and successful experiences in their respective fields. It also serves as a platform for dialogue between representatives of these organizations and academics on ways of enhancing the performance of Academic Chairs, increasing their contribution to development, and reinforcing their role in addressing evolving knowledge and societal transformations.
ALECSO was represented by Dr. Mourad Rifi, Director of the Arabization Coordination Bureau, and Mr. Amine Dahmani, Head of the National Commission Division.
In his remarks, Mr. Dahmani emphasized the importance of Academic Chairs as strategic platforms for knowledge production and for strengthening cooperation among universities, research centers, and decision-makers. He highlighted ALECSO’s efforts to develop and expand the Network of Chairs, as well as its achievements in capacity-building, the organization of scientific events, and knowledge dissemination. He also addressed key challenges, including funding constraints, coordination gaps, and the need to better align research with societal priorities. In this context, he presented a forward-looking vision centered on strengthening networking and international partnerships, supporting innovation and young researchers, and linking research outcomes to public policies in support of sustainable development in the Arab world.
Mr. Dahmani also presented a paper during the second session entitled: “The Network of ALECSO-affiliated Academic Chairs: Reality, Achievements, and Development Prospects.” In his presentation, he reviewed the Network’s role in supporting Arab scientific research, fostering partnerships, and facilitating the exchange of expertise in the fields of education, culture, technology, and sustainable development. He highlighted the Network’s key achievements, including forums, training sessions, publications, and scientific initiatives, and outlined ALECSO’s vision for its future development through expansion, strengthened joint projects, and enhanced international cooperation.
