ALECSO Organizes Seminar on   “The Other: Difference and Recognition”

Under the patronage of H.E. Dr. Mohamed Ould Amar, Director-General of ALECSO, the Department of Education organized a seminar in philosophy and human and social sciences, entitled The Other: Difference and Recognition.”

Held in hybrid format on January 27–28, 2026, the Seminar brought together  academics and experts from Jordan, UAE, Tunisia, Syria, Kuwait, Egypt, and Mauritania, reflecting a rich diversity of scholarly perspectives and academic experiences.

The Seminar was conducted under the academic supervision of Dr. Mohamed Mahjoub, Professor Emeritus of Hermeneutics and History of Philosophy at El-Manar University, Tunisia. It provided a dynamic platform for in-depth discussion and exchange of views on the concept of “the Other” in its philosophical, educational, and value-based dimensions, particularly within a context of rapid sociocultural transformations shaping contemporary societies.

This initiative forms part of ALECSO’s integrated strategic vision which places strong emphasis on advancing the teaching of philosophy and human and social sciences as a cornerstone for enhancing life skills, fostering critical thinking, promoting creativity and tolerance, and valuing cultural diversity and human coexistence.

The seminar also underscored the vital role of human and social sciences as a cultural and security imperative in a world where identities are shaped in flexible and multiple ways, and are influenced by cross-border digital and cultural interactions. These evolving dynamics, participants noted, call for innovative educational approaches capable of effectively responding to ongoing global transformations.
