H.E. Dr. Marwan Al-Halabi, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research of the Syrian Arab Republic, received, on 15 January 2026 at the Ministry’s headquarters, H.E. Dr. Mohamed Ould Amar, Director-General of ALECSO, who was accompanied by a high-level delegation consisting of directors of technical departments and subsidiary institutions of the Organization.
The Minister welcomed the Director-General and his accompanying delegation, commending the visit as one that would strengthen the significant cooperation between the Ministry and ALECSO. He reviewed the Ministry’s future-oriented vision in support of sustainable development goals, and the challenges to be met in this regard. He indicated that the Ministry has adopted a phased strategy that seeks to leverage the pivotal role of universities and scientific research centers in promoting sustainable development. In this context, the Minister expressed his desire to draw on ALECSO’s extensive expertise in the educational, cultural, and scientific fields.
For his part, the Director-General of ALECSO expressed his thanks and appreciation to the Minister for providing the opportunity of this meeting, and commended the significant level of cooperation between ALECSO and the Ministry. He stressed the importance of supporting Syria at this stage, affirmed ALECSO’s readiness to help meet the Ministry’s needs, within the limits of its capabilities, by providing the needed technical and scientific expertise. He indicated that work would be soon undertaken to prepare a joint practical program, to be implemented in coordination and cooperation with the Syrian National Commission for Education, Culture and Science.
