Syrian Education Minister receives ALECSO Director-General

 

H.E. Dr. Mohammed Turko, Minister of Education of the Syrian Arab Republic, received, on 14 January 2026 at the Ministry’s headquarters, H.E. Dr. Mohamed Ould Amar, Director-General of ALECSO, who was accompanied by a high-level delegation consisting of directors of technical departments and subsidiary institutions of the Organization.

The Minister welcomed the Director-General and his accompanying delegation, commending the visit as a significant step in strengthening the significant cooperation between the Ministry and the Organization. He highlighted the challenges that have faced the education sector in Syria due to difficult circumstances, noting that many of them have been surmounted thanks to determination and perseverance. He expressed appreciation for the efficient work and  dedicated efforts of the Ministry’s personnel, and called on ALECSO to support the Ministry’s forward-looking vision in the coming period. The Minister also commended ALECSO’s initiatives and programs designed to serve Arab countries in the educational, cultural, and scientific fields.

For his part, the Director-General expressed his gratitude to the Minister for providing the opportunity of this visit to Syria. He indicated that ALECSO—the Arab platform of expertise in education, culture and science—stands ready to help meet Syria’s urgent needs, particularly in terms of curriculum development and modernization of the educational system.

Both sides agreed to pursue consultation and coordination so that the Ministry can best benefit from the opportunities offered by ALECSO in support of the education sector and educational institutions in need of assistance.
