ALECSO Director-General discusses with Syria’s Culture Minister Ways to Enhance Cultural Cooperation and Heritage Protection

H.E. Dr. Mohamed Ould Amar, Director-General of ALECSO, met, on October 30, 2025, with H.E. Mr. Mohammed Saleh, Minister of Culture of the Syrian Arab Republic, on the sidelines of the 27th  Conference on Archaeology and Cultural Heritage in the Arab World, hosted by the State of Qatar.

The meeting addressed ways to strengthen cooperation between ALECSO and Syria in the fields of culture and heritage, particularly in protecting and preserving Syrian archaeological sites and inscribing them on Arab and international heritage lists. The meeting also discussed prospects for implementing joint training programs and projects.

The Director-General emphasized that Syria represents a cornerstone of the Arab cultural landscape, given its rich civilizational heritage. He noted that ALECSO attaches special importance to supporting Syria’s efforts to safeguard its heritage and rehabilitate its damaged cultural sites, in line with ALECSO’s vision for the preservation of Arab cultural identity.  He also stressed the importance of exchanging expertise between ALECSO and Syrian cultural institutions, and involving Syrian specialists in regional programs carried out by ALECSO in the fields of restoration, documentation, and cultural education.

For his part, the Syrian Minister expressed his country’s appreciation for the role played by ALECSO in serving Arab culture, affirming Syria’s readiness to strengthen coordination with ALECSO and actively contribute to its future programs and projects.

At the end of the meeting, the Director-General reiterated ALECSO’s commitment to continue working jointly with all Arab countries to protect cultural heritage and preserve the civilizational memory of the Arab Nation. He reaffirmed ALECSO’s conviction that culture remains a vital bridge for enhancing Arab solidarity and renewing awareness of shared identity.
