ALECSO Participates in Lisbon Forum 2025

The Arab League Educational, Cultural and Scientific Organization (ALECSO) took part in the Lisbon Forum 2025, organized by the European-Mediterranean North-South Center of the Council of Europe, on October 28–29, 2025, in Lisbon, Portugal, under the theme: AI and Global Governance: Rights, Representativity, and Readiness.”

ALECSO was represented at this event by Dr. Rami Iskander, Director of Education ; Dr. Mohamed Jemni, Director of ICT; and Ms. Nesrin Ghnaim, External Relations Officer.

ALECSO’s participation in the Forum enriched discussions on the role of educational and cultural institutions in developing responsible and sustainable artificial intelligence, drawing from ALECSO’s experiences in this regard, particularly its “Charter on AI Ethics”, and its initiatives related to AI and digital transformation in education.

This participation reflects ALECSO’s commitment to actively contribute to international dialogues on the future of AI, and to support Arab efforts in developing policies based on rights, transparency, and accountability; thereby ensuring the ethical and equitable use of AI technologies in the service of development, education, and culture in the Arab region.

The Forum addressed the growing impact of AI on human rights, democracy, and the rule of law. It also touched on issues related to digital inclusion, cultural representation, and AI education.

The Lisbon Forum is one of the leading international platforms for promoting intercultural dialogue and discussing challenges associated with digital governance and artificial intelligence. It brings together representatives from governments, regional and international organizations, and civil society institutions.
