Launch of the Arab Architectural and Urban Heritage Register 

At the conclusion of the 10th  Meeting of the Observatory of Architectural and Urban Heritage in Arab Countries, held on July 30, 2025 in the Lebanese capital, Beirut,  H.E. Dr. Mohamed Ould Amar, Director-General of ALECSO, presented certificates of inscription into the Arab Architectural and Urban Heritage Register for the year 2025 (first batch of files) to the representatives of the participating countries. 

This session marked a pivotal moment in the process of protecting and promoting the Arab architectural and urban heritage. The Evaluation Committee announced the launch of the Arab Architectural and Urban Heritage Register, with the inclusion of the following (first batch) of cultural properties :

  • Historic Medina of Fez – Morocco
  • Old City of Jerusalem – Palestine
  • Al-Khabra Town – Saudi Arabia
  • Kuwait Towers – Kuwait
  • Al-Hamouda Mosque – Oman
  • Barzan Tower – Qatar
  • Umayyad Mosque in Damascus – Syria
  • Old City of Hebron – Palestine
  • Union House – United Arab Emirates
  • Old City of Miliana – Algeria
  • Gezira Art Center – Egypt
  • Historical Sites along the Tigris River – Iraq
  • Al-Qishla Castle – Saudi Arabia
  • Azougui Archaeological Site –  Mauritania
  • Murwab Archaeological Site  – Qatar
  • Great Omari Mosque in the Old City of Gaza – Palestine
  • Cisterns of Aden – Yemen
  • Tounin Village – Libya
  • Al-Zaytuna Mosque – Tunisia

The Committee also approved a number of nomination files submitted prior to the 2025 session, including the following properties:

  • Raghadan Palace – Jordan
  • The Old Palace – Qatar
  • Diriyah – Saudi Arabia
  • Thee Ain Historical Village – Saudi Arabia
  • Castle and Fortress – Oman
  • Sohar Castle – Oman
  • Al-Shawadhna Mosque – Oman
  • Al-Wastani Gate – Iraq
  • Qadisha Valley and the Cedars of God – Lebanon
