The Arab League Educational, Cultural and Scientific Organization took part in the “International Symposium on Arab and International Scientific Cooperation in Research and Innovation”, organized by Sohar University in collaboration with the Ministry of Higher Education, Research, and Innovation of the Sultanate of Oman, and the Federation of Arab Scientific Research Councils.
ALECSO was represented by Dr. Mohamed Sanad Abu Darwish, Director of Science and Scientific Research, who participated as an keynote speaker in the Symposium.
Dr. Abu Darwish conveyed the greetings of H.E. Dr. Mohamed Ould Amar, Director-General of ALECSO, to all participants, and emphasized the Organization's readiness to cooperate with all institutions, organizations, and universities, both Arab and international, to achieve common goals in the fields of education, culture, and science, and to advance scientific research in response to the current global challenges.
Dr. Abu Darwish reviewed the activities undertaken by the Department of Science and Scientific Research to achieve the goals set out in the Arab Strategy for Scientific Research, Technology, and Innovation. He also indicated that ALECSO had launched preparations for the implementation of the Scientific Visitor Program, which aims to promote scientific exchange between Arab and international universities and research institutions. He took this opportunity to invite Arab researchers and academics to register on the “ALECSO Science Gate”, the first of its kind in the Arab world, which serves as a database for Arab researchers in their diverse areas of specialization and a means of networking among them.
Dr. Abu Darwish also represented ALECSO at the preparatory meeting chaired by H.E. Dr. Rahma bint Ibrahim Al Mahrooqi, Minister of Higher Education, Research, and Innovation, in the presence of the President of Sohar University, the President of the University of Al-Buraimi, the President of the Arab Open University in Oman, along with officials from the Ministry and representatives from the Oman National Commission for Education, Culture, and Science.
During the meeting, Dr. Abu Darwish conveyed the greetings of the ALECSO Director-General to the Omani Minister of Higher Education, indicating that the Organization stands ready to cooperate with the Ministry and the Omani National Commission in implementing several projects to be hosted by Omani universities in 2025. He also updated the Omani officials on the preliminary arrangements undertaken for the implementation of these projects.
The Omani Minister expressed her thanks and gratitude to the Director-General for the significant efforts made by ALECSO for advancing scientific progress in Arab countries. She directed the universities hosting these activities to coordinate with ALECSO’s Department of Science and Scientific Research and the Omani National Commission for Education, Culture, and Science. She also stressed the Ministry’s readiness to support the implementation of these projects in pursuit of the intended goals.
