14th Arabization Conference concludes in Muscat

 

The 14th Arabization Conference, which ran over two days, concluded its work in Muscat, Sultanate of Oman, on November 18, 2024. The Conference was jointly organized by ALECSO (Arabization Coordination Bureau) and the GCC Centre for Translation, Arabization and the Promotion of Arabic.

The Conference was attended by the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Youth, the Secretary-General of the Omani National Commission for Education, Science and Culture, heads of universities, and other prominent figures  from Arab countries. Relevant experts and researchers participated in the seminar on “Scientific and Technical Terminology and its Application in Specialized Fields.”

During the Conference, experts reviewed several specialized dictionaries prepared by the Arabization Coordination Bureau, including the Unified Dictionary of Economic Terms, the Unified Dictionary of Business Law Terms, and the Unified Dictionary of Accounting and Auditing Terms. These were approved by the Conference participants.

Speaking on behalf of H.E. Dr. Mohamed Ould Amar, Director-General of ALECSO, Dr. Mourad Rifi, Director of the Arabization Coordination Bureau, highlighted the role played by the Arabization Coordination Bureau in the regular production of specialized dictionaries to enrich the Arab libraries in various fields.

The seminar held as part of the Conference addressed current topics in the fields of Arabization and translation, including “Arabization and Translation: Current State and Future Prospects”; “Experiences of Researchers and Institutions in Utilizing Specialized Dictionaries in Science and Technology”; “International Approaches to Selecting Scientific and Technical Terms and Their Success Indicators”; and “Digitization of Scientific and Technical Terms.”

The Conference concluded with a series of recommendations focusing on the coordination tasks of the Arabization Coordination Bureau, the methodology for preparing specialized terminological resources, and the ways of leveraging computer technology in Arabization and translation.

At the close of the Conference, participants sent a message of respect and gratitude to His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tariq Al Said.
