H.E. Dr. Mohamed Ould Amar, Director-General of ALECSO, met, on October 3, 2024, with H.E. Dr. Rahma bint Ibrahim Al Mahrouqi, Minister of Higher Education, Scientific Research, and Innovation of the Sultanate of Oman, at the Ministry's headquarters in Muscat.
The meeting took place on the sidelines of the 3rd ICESCO Education Ministers Conference, convened in Muscat, Oman.
During the meeting, the Director-General expressed his thanks to the Minister for providing this opportunity to discuss several topics of mutual interest, in particular preparations for the 19th Conference of Arab Ministers of Higher Education and Scientific Research, to be hosted by the United Arab Emirates on November 27-28, 2024.
The meeting also touched on ALECSO's Arab university twinning initiative, whose first edition was launched in October 2023 at ALECSO’s headquarters. It also addressed the Arab strategy for attracting Arab diaspora talents, and stressed the need for further collaboration in providing scholarships at Omani universities for students, as part of the Omani program for cultural and scientific cooperation among Arab countries.
For her part, the Minister thanked the Director-General for this meeting which offered an opportunity to consult on issues of common interest, to explore avenues for increased cooperation, and to benefit from the Omani expertise. She expressed her willingness to pay a visit to ALECSO headquarters in Tunis and to several Tunisian universities with a view to signing cooperation and partnership agreements.
