The Arab League Educational, Cultural, and Scientific Organization (ALECSO) participated in the UN Science Summit (UNGA79) through a side-session organized, on September 13, 2024, by the Federation of Arab Scientific Research Councils, under the title : “The Role of Scientific Research in Achieving Sustainable Development Goals in Arab States”.
Dr. Mohamed Jemni, Director of ICT at ALECSO, delivered a lecture entitled: “ALECSO's Efforts in Utilizing ICT to Achieve Sustainable Development Goals in the Arab World.” He provided a detailed overview of ALECSO's initiatives to support digital transformation and promote the use of ICT and AI in the Arab world. He referred, in this regard, to the "Arab Code Week," organized by ALECSO with the aim of spreading the culture of programming among Arab children and youth, as well as the “NFT platform project”, designed to enable students in the Arab world to produce innovative digital educational works.
Dr. Jemni underlined the importance of international cooperation in fostering digital transformation, noting that ALECSO has forged partnerships with global institutions such as “Intel”, “ICHEI”, and “Millennium@EDU” to support digital transformation in the Arab region.
Dr. Jemni indicated that ALECSO is working on establishing an Arab Ethical Charter on the Use of Artificial Intelligence, designed to guide the use of AI in the Arab world in a way aligned with Arab cultural values and traditions, with focus on ensuring fairness and equality in access to technology for all, including vulnerable groups.
Dr. Jemni highlighted the importance of innovation and entrepreneurship in the fields of artificial intelligence and information technology, noting that ALECSO is seeking to build a new generation of young innovators capable of offering technological solutions that can serve sustainable development in the Arab world.
