H.E. Dr. Mohamed Ould Amar, Director-General of ALECSO, received, on August 29, 2024 at ALECSO headquarters, H.E. Dr. Naim Al-Aboudi, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research of the Republic of Iraq, and his accompanying delegation. The meeting was also attended by H.E. Mr. Abdulhakim Al-Qassab, Ambassador of the Republic of Iraq to the Republic of Tunisia.
This high-level visit falls within the framework of ALECSO's cooperation and strategic partnership with the Republic of Iraq. It aimed at promoting bilateral consultations in order to further boost cooperation and develop practical mechanisms for its implementation in accordance with ALECSO’s Action Plan (2023-2028) and the priorities of the Iraqi Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research.
During the visit, an expanded working session was held, chaired by the Director-General and the Minister, and attended by the Directors of ALECSO’s technical departments, staff members, and the Iraqi delegation.
On this occasion, the Director-General highlighted the significant level of partnership and cooperation between ALECSO and Iraq. He commended Iraq’s continued support for ALECSO and its mandate since its establishment, highlighting the significant contributions of Iraqi educational, cultural, and scientific experts to the work of ALECSO. He recalled that prominent Iraqi figures had contributed to the drafting of ALECSO’s key foundational documents, including strategies, plans, and programs. He also commended Iraq’s hosting of numerous conferences, seminars, and activities in the educational, cultural and scientific fields.
For his part, the Iraqi Minister expressed his thanks to the Director-General for the kind invitation to visit ALECSO and learn more about its activities. He praised the Organization’s leading role at the Arab and international levels, and expressed his readiness to increase and strengthen cooperation between ALECSO and the Ministry in areas of shared interest, particularly in scientific research, through practical programs that serve sustainable development goals and help achieve the desired scientific advancement.
During the meeting, the Directors of ALECSO’s Technical Department offered presentations about the Organizations’ key achievements and the various programs and projects scheduled for 2025-2026 in the fields of education, higher education, scientific research, culture, and communication technologies. They highlighted the importance of these projects in which Iraq is actively involved in terms of planning and implementation, similar to all other Arab countries.
It was also indicated that Iraq will host the 20th session of the Conference of Arab Ministers of Higher Education and Scientific Research in 2026.
