ALECSO holds coordination meeting for directors of Arab theater festivals

As part of its continuous follow-up of Arab cultural affairs amid the COVID-19 crisis which has made it necessary to impose restrictive health measures that have disrupted cultural activities, with adverse effects on the situation of intellectuals and professional artists, ALECSO held, on October 20, 2020, jointly with the Arab Theater Institute, a virtual coordination meeting that brought together a number of directors of national theaters and theater festivals in the Arab countries.
The meeting, chaired by Dr. Mohamed Ould Amar, Director-General of ALECSO, was devoted to addressing the impact that the pandemic has had on the cultural sector, especially with the closure of theaters and performance halls, and the cancellation or postponement of artistic events and performances.
The meeting discussed the ways and means to provide the necessary support for artists and theater professionals so that they can cope with the adverse effects of the health crisis and adapt to the new circumstances. It also addressed the role of digital platforms in maintaining the continuity of theatrical activities and performances, without prejudice to the interests of producers and artists and to the protection of their material and intellectual property rights.
