  ALECSO holds special meeting of the Permanent Committee for Arab Culture

The Arab League Educational, Cultural and Scientific Organization (Culture Department) held, on October 15, 2020, a virtual meeting of the Permanent Committee for Arab Culture.
The meeting was chaired by H.E. Dr. Mohamed Ould Amar, Director-General of ALECSO, and attended by Their Excellencies the President and Members of the Permanent Committee for Arab Culture and the Secretaries-General of National Commissions from 19 Arab States. It was devoted to presenting a preliminary working paper for the project of “Updating and Developing the Comprehensive Plan for Arab culture”, as part of implementing the resolutions of the 21st session of the Arab Culture Ministers Conference (Cairo 2018).
In his opening statement, the Director-General welcomed all participants, and indicated that updating the Comprehensive Plan for Arab Culture is part of the forward-looking approach embraced by ALECSO, especially in light of the difficulties and crises experienced by Arab countries, and as part of the Organization’s responsibility and keenness to bring culture closer to Arab citizens. He took this opportunity to express his thanks to the United Arab Emirates for its generous support for this project.
Mr. Abderraouf Basti, the expert assigned by ALECSO to implement and coordinate the project, presented the working paper containing the general framework and main lines of this indicative plan. On their part, the representatives of Arab States provided their observations and proposals, which will inform the remaining stages of the plan. In the end, it was agreed to hold periodic coordination meetings to keep the Permanent Committee abreast of the progress made in implementing the project.
