ALECSO statement condemning attempts by the Israeli Occupation Government to impose the Israeli official vacation schedule on Palestinian schools

In flagrant violation of the natural right of Palestinian students in East Al-Quds to receive education according to the curriculum of their own choosing, and contrary to the international conventions that prohibit the occupying state from interfering with or changing education curricula, the Israeli government persists in transgressing the rights of the Palestinian people in the city of Al-Quds, in an attempt to impose a new reality and a new way of Judaization on the schools of this city. The government has, in fact, imposed the Israeli vacation schedule on schools in East Al-Quds, which will have negative consequences on the secondary general examinations in these schools.

It is to be recalled that since the occupation of this city in 1967 and till the present day, there have been several attempts to Judaize, by various means, the education curricula of the Palestinian schools in East Al-Quds, with the aim of obliterating the Arab identity in this city. These attempts were strongly countered by Palestinian students and parents, and by the Palestinian people in general.

Faced with this grave situation, we at ALECSO :
- Squarely reject the Israeli occupation government’s attempts to impose the Israeli vacation schedule on schools in occupied East Al-Quds;
- Demand that the Israeli occupation government comply with the international conventions, treaties and charters that prohibit the occupying state from Judaizing education curricula in a way that imposes the Israeli views and ideas on the Palestinian people;
- Urge the international community, and particularly UNESCO, to assume its role in this regard, and to reject any form of interference with the rights and future of students in East Al-Quds;
- Support the Palestinian people in their struggle to recover their full, undiminished rights, and continue to defend their interest and rights.
